principle and element in design
balance
The two pictures above show the design element “balance”.
The first picture is a graphic poster design by British designer Becky Kemps. The design is simple and delicate, it shows balance as the right side and left side are equal. The second picture is a photograph of a reflecting mountain which the upper and lower part of image is equal showing the element of balance. |
direction
-DIRECTION-
The first picture is a graphic design poster”Guimaraes JAZZ” by Ateilier Martino & Jana,2009. The typography and words are arranged in a curvy path which creates direction and flow. As the viewers’ eyes are left to follow the words and flow of it through the piece as they read the information in the poster. |
texture
The first pic is a graphic poster designed by once again Becky Kemps. The background of the circle shows the texture of grey crumpled paper. Giving a vivid image of how the material appears to be and how it might feel when touching it.
The second pic is a photograph of old wooden wall. The lines and patterns on the wood surface really gives out the texture of wood. The shadows at the edges also makes the texture of material 3D and authentic. |
emphasis
the first picture is a graphic design of the apple logo. The background and surrounding of the logo is dark while the apple logo is white and light which really makes the logo stand out and prominent. Emphasizing and focusing on the apple logo, makes it the center of attention.the second picture is a photograph i took myself in Candi Prambanan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 2015. In this photography, i used fish eye to create the effect to zoom into the center and focus on it. I had also blurred out the surroundings and edges making only the center part sharp to emphasize on it
